Jake Wisely

Jake Wisely is a partner and co-president of The Bicycle Music Company - an independent music publisher and rights holder based in Beverly Hills and New York City. Wisely was instrumental in the acquisition and funding of Bicycle in 2005, which had been a family business established in 1974. Since then, he has helped to usher the company into a new age, overseeing the business affairs and administration of an ever-expanding catalog of evergreen songs spanning genres and eras. Since Wisely and his partners took the helm at Bicycle, it has amassed standards and hits as broadly as well as song catalogs by such legendary recording artists as Dwight Yoakam, Cyndi Lauper, Roy Ayers, Nine Inch Nails, Jefferson Starship, Pete Seeger and Tammy Wynette. Wisely has worked in the west coast creative departments of both EMI Music Publishing and Universal Music Publishing, and was Director of Artists, Labels and Soundtracks at eMusic.com. He was Director of Membership and managed the Midwest membership office of ASCAP in Chicago from 1996-97. Wisely is an art school dropout whose childhood passion for punk rock and heavy metal merged with an entrepreneurial spirit at a young age, resulting in a fanzine publishing empire during the thriving Minneapolis music scene of the 1980’s. Uncle Fester Fanzine and Sheet Metal Magazine gave way to Red Decibel, Inc. in 1990. Red Decibel, through Columbia Records, released albums by such stellar unknowns as Season To Risk, House of Large Sizes and Fat Tuesday, while it independently released albums by bands with names like The Coup de Grace, Glazed Baby and Cher U.K. Wisely is a member of the California Copyright Conference and the Association of Independent Music Publishers, and currently resides in Los Angeles, CA.
