Brett Swain

Beginning Record One studios, Brett Swain trained under legendary recording engineer Val Garay, cutting his teeth on projects with the likes of Neil Diamond, Dolly Parton, Warren Zevon, Lita Ford and Don Henley. Segueing to The Complex recording studios, he then collaborated with such award winning producers and engineers as George Massenburg and Greg Ladanyi. Following this period, Conway Recording Studios brought Brett in as on numerous projects from The YellowJackets, Bob Seger, Ringo Starr, Jan Arden, Aaron Neville, Emerson Lake and Palmer and Exposé.  Here, he finally gained entrée into the film world with his work on Cry Baby as well as Arif Mardin’s and Bette Midler’s For The Boys. As house engineer at O’Henry Studios, Swain was on countless albums but also found that his interest in film and television music was blossoming. In addition to working on albums for Prince, Herbie Hancock, Caifanes, Andraé Crouch and Crosby, Stills and Nash, he engineered on such films as Mortal Combat, Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery, That Thing You Do; and on television’s Matlock, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, The Simpsons and Lost. Brett’s work at O’Henry, garnered the attention of a Walt Disney company executive who invited him to be a music supervisor at the studio. He leapt at the opportunity and has now been with the company over a decade working as a music supervisor and music producer on over 50 animated productions.  Brett loves every facet of each film’s music as early as identifying song moments at the script stage. Plus, he gets to hire the songwriters, singers and composers booking musicians in some of the very studios where he began his career.
